Infanticide is a common practice in the animal kingdom, it involves the killing of young offsprings of the same species. In most cases its an operation carried out by the adult Male to create a mating opportunity with the infant's mother, usually the female doesn't fight back because Hey!, She wants to mate too 😉, the presence of a suckling offspring means she won't be getting any action.
Pasika is a mountain gorilla from the Virunga Mountains in Rwanda, she had lost a baby in the past too and infanticidal male gorilla, and when she had a second baby she separated her self from her Troop and journeyed for 7 months alone with her baby, with the sole intention to protect her baby from being killed by an Adult Gorilla. Pasika's behavior is tagged "heroic," conscious choice, and an act of genuine motherly love.
This portrait was conceptualized by GBLagos.art and commission to an uber-talented Kenyan artist called Ace Maurice.
